Role Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Social Media Manager – Writer, Editor & Business Development professional who combines strong storytelling skills with growth-oriented thinking. This role is ideal for someone who understands how content, community, and partnerships work together to build influence, engagement, and commercial opportunities.
You will be responsible for driving social media strategy, rapid follower growth, content execution, and monetization across four distinct but interconnected accounts:
- ExpatNations Community, Media & Lifestyle – events, nightlife, community stories, brand collaborations, and cultural content.
- Career & Professional Content – business, leadership, personal development, and career-oriented storytelling.
- Cat Content – short-form, viral-friendly lifestyle and entertainment content centered around a British Shorthair kitten.
- Personal Content – personal branding, lifestyle, thought leadership, music, and health & wellness content for the ExpatNations founder.
You will own social media growth, content quality, editorial consistency, and contribute to business development initiatives with partners, sponsors, and collaborators.
Key ResponsibilitiesSocial Media Growth & Community Engagement
- Manage and scale the digital presence of ExpatNations, its founder, and @SirSharkespeare across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and YouTube Shorts.
- Drive follower growth, engagement, and community interaction through consistent, high-quality content and platform-native strategies.
Content Strategy, Writing & Editing
- Write, edit, and publish compelling captions, scripts, short-form narratives, and community-driven stories.
- Develop content calendars aligned with trends, campaigns, events, and business objectives.
- Ensure editorial consistency, tone of voice, and brand alignment across all platforms.
Creative Production & Visual Direction
- Conceptualize and produce short-form videos, highlight reels, and visual assets optimized for social platforms.
- Collaborate on or execute basic video edits and graphic designs using tools such as CapCut, Canva, or Photoshop.
Event Media & Live Coverage
- Attend key ExpatNations events to capture live content, interviews, behind-the-scenes moments, and post-event highlights.
- Translate event energy into engaging digital storytelling that strengthens brand positioning, community loyalty, and shareability.
Team Leadership, Planning & Quality Control
- Lead and manage a small in-house content team consisting of 2 videographers and content editors.
- Plan daily and weekly work priorities, content pipelines, and production schedules to ensure speed, consistency, and relevance.
- Review, refine, and quality-control all video and visual outputs to maximize content impact, engagement, and virality across platforms.
- Provide clear creative direction, feedback, and performance expectations to continuously improve output quality.
Personal Branding & Lifestyle Media
- Support the growth of the ExpatNations founder’s personal brand through professional, lifestyle, and thought-leadership content.
- Contribute creatively to the digital presence of a highly photogenic British Shorthair kitten with viral potential.
Business Development & Revenue Partnerships
- Proactively identify, pitch, negotiate, and secure branding, sponsorship, and partnership deals that generate direct revenue for ExpatNations and its associated media properties.
- Develop compelling partnership proposals by packaging audience insights, reach metrics, content concepts, and campaign ideas.
- Work closely with founders and stakeholders to align commercial partnerships with brand values, community relevance, and long-term growth objectives.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree (S1) or equivalent practical experience.
- Languages: Fluent in English and Bahasa Indonesia (written and spoken).
- Platform Expertise: Strong understanding of Instagram (Reels, Feed, Stories), TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and YouTube Shorts.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Canva, CapCut, Adobe Photoshop, ChatGPT, Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive), and other relevant editing, productivity, and content-creation tools.
- Creative Judgment: Strong eye for design, storytelling, trends, and viral formats.
- Interpersonal Skills: Comfortable engaging with expat communities, partners, influencers, and brand sponsors.
- Event Confidence: Willing and confident to attend—and occasionally represent or host—events.
- Organization: Able to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and content streams simultaneously.
- Work Ethic: Highly proactive, disciplined, execution-focused, and accountable, with a strong growth mindset and bias toward action and results.
- Coachability: Open to feedback, iteration, and continuous improvement.
- Bonus: You enjoy working with animals—or at minimum, do not mind collaborating with an adorable British Shorthair kitten.
Preferred (Not Required)
- Prior experience in social media management, influencer marketing, media, or event content coverage.
- A portfolio or social media accounts showcasing content, campaigns, video edits, or communities you have grown or managed.
