About the role
Based in our Balikpapan Support Facility office, we have a great opportunity for a Superintendent Lifting Equipment, this specialist position reporting to Manager, Asset Operations and support our various projects within Indonesian operations.
As Superintendent Lifting Equipment you will be responsible for:
- Drive the delivery and support of lifting equipment maintenance work across all Thiess Indonesian operations.
- Conduct lifting equipment audits and provide recommendations for necessary repairs or improvements based on findings.
- Perform audits on lifting equipment maintenance records to ensure compliance with Thiess procedures and government regulations.
- Ensure that cranes and lifting equipment comply with Thiess Safety Essential Standards and government safety regulations, including certifications.
- Provide expert recommendations for spare parts, upgrades, or replacement equipment, aligning with operational needs.
- Collaborate with site personnel to oversee and advise on lifting equipment maintenance, ensuring parts meet OEM standards and are fit for purpose.
- Provide guidance on preventive maintenance schedules to keep cranes and lifting equipment in optimal working condition.
- Offer troubleshooting support for equipment issues, even when not physically present on-site.
- Advise on best practices for equipment repairs.
- Assist in selecting appropriate cranes and lifting equipment based on project requirements and environmental conditions.
About you
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Thiess Apprentice, or extensive crane-related experience (preferred)
- Minimum 10 years of experience in rigging and crane operations
- At least 5 years of experience supervising crews in a maintenance environment (preferred)
- Proficient in load calculations, rigging design, and interpreting engineering drawings
- Competent in calculating load capacities, determining safe lifting limits, and performing risk assessments for lifting operations
- In-depth knowledge of crane and lifting equipment, including operation, maintenance, and types of cranes (e.g., mobile, overhead) and lifting devices (e.g., hoists, slings, shackles)
- Skilled in creating detailed lifting plans, including equipment selection, rigging, and safety measures
- Familiar with inspection processes, certification requirements, and safety regulations for lifting equipment
- Understanding of hydraulic and mechanical systems in cranes and lifting equipment
- Able to interpret lift plans and drawings
- Strong communication skills in English (both written and verbal)
- Proficient in MS Office suite and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (e.g., JDE)
- Knowledge of contract management
- Proven ability to lead teams and drive results
- Willingness to travel to sites for crane and lifting equipment purposes
